Naman eh!
I saw the fuzz on Twitter on what Carlos Padilla did.
The international referee talked to a person and for more or less 30 minutes, he talked about his career, his acting career (Family Rubbing Alcohol is his famous commercial), and this one Manny Pacquiao tidbit that I wished he just kept to himself.
I think he doesn't know what he did.
The 88-year-old Boxing Hall of Famer sat in front of his webcam to discuss the thing that he did. Yes, this involves Manny Pacquiao. With the exception of the possible involvement of the boxing mafia, I doubt if they could give a shit of who Pacquiao was at that point. This happened before Pac-Man battled Lehlo Ledwaba. Granted, in that span, the boxing officials may have given him the chance to face the former IBF super bantamweight champion because of that win. However, most of Pacquiao's matches were still in Blow-By-Blow - Vintage TV's weekly boxing program.
I doubt if he was pulling a shit-load of money back then.
Now people could say that this robbed Nedal Hussein of his future. Skinny had a somewhat long career but only fought in Las Vegas once - in a losing effort for the WBC World Super Bantamweight Championship against another Pacquiao victim in Oscar Larios. However, boxing is such a sport with shady characters and shitty organizations. The reason why the sport has alphabet-soup organizations is that more title bouts mean more Las Vegas odds. This is also the reason why boxing is in a hellhole at the moment - because the same organizations devalued their titles. When the heavyweight division saw fewer stars, the welterweight division saved the sport. But with Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao settling with exhibition matches, boxing took a hit.
I don't know if this is a live interview but I think they should have protected Padilla as well as Pacquiao. With Padilla, he doesn't know the implications of his actions and for Pacquiao, his star power will automatically involve him. I don't want to say this is a deathbed confession but he probably thought he did something cool but instead, he just messed up his career. Boxing hasn't had a controversy of this magnitude for a while now and of course, they are going to ride this.
Also, I don't want to say that it's better to hide the truth but again if he gave Pacquiao an "L", Pacquiao would have lost the WBC International Super Bantamweight Title and Hussain would have faced Tetsutora Senrima and Fojian Prawet in his home country with the possibility of facing Ledwaba. And if he had the career route of Pacquiao, he could have gone on to face the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez, Agapito Sanchez, and Erik Morales.
But then again, he's probably going to lose to Larios again. We know Pacquiao's homecourt advantage over Chololo when he came and fought Pacquiao in Araneta Coliseum.
Pacquiao is going to survive this because Padilla only had one Pacquiao match and I doubt if his devastating wins were due to referee stoppages (and Pacquiao for most of his career has been used as the dude to elevate talent) but unless someone brings up the Thrilla in Manila over and over again, I don't know how people will look at a referee who never called it in the middle.
Nedal Hussein has expressed no ill feelings towards Pacquiao but yeah, his motion to derail Padilla's Hall of Fame career is in motion.
Again, I question why the hell would he say it in front of a camera and why didn't the people behind it protect him.
