THE WWE 2K23 TRAILER IS COOL!

This trailer has a history and objective.

As a promo writer that likes to do manly projects, I tend to check out TVCs of similar genres. With that said, just because you're going to do a basketball commercial, you can't just hole yourself with a screaming man muttering angst-filled adjectives.

My take on your typical basketball, boxing, and combat-themed promos is that you can say anything you want for as long as the voiceover guy is screaming. My biggest example would be Steve Carell in character as the nicest German ever.

There are times though in which I throw a curveball every now and then. My biggest example here would be WWE's 2005 Royal Rumble commercial. The wrestlers were threatening their counterparts but they were also singing the lines a la West Side Story. Major props to Rey Mysterio here for putting a wig on top of his mask as well as Vince McMahon for staying in on the joke. This commercial was the prelude to their epic Wrestlemania Goes Hollywood commercials which is another set of creative masterpieces.

In some ways, the story of John Cena has both. From humble beginnings, Cena rose to fame and is now a multimedia star. This story is synonymous with every Create-A-Wrestler character from all WWE-related game platforms. Cena might be firm with his words, but he is not shouting. Plus, his words have conviction. Basically, he is saying the words he believe is right. Also, the full graphic frames are simple as I think the era of overly extravagant full frames is over for as long as the words are readable. This is why I like this trailer.

I must steal this concept!
