Dubbed “The Skyscraper,” Marlou Aquino made an immediate impact upon entering the PBA in 1996, collecting Rookie of the Year, Best Player of the Conference, a Mythical First Team nod, and Defensive Player of the Year—all in his debut season. His intimidating presence in the paint, shot-blocking prowess, and soft shooting touch made him an instant star and one of the most unique big men of his era. Aquino added three championships, a Finals MVP in 1997, and a total of four All-Defensive Team selections, proving his consistency on both ends of the court. Though he never won MVP, his early dominance and lasting defensive impact cement his legacy as one of the most memorable No. 1 picks in PBA history.
