A true titan of the PBA, Asi Taulava entered the league in 1999 with hype, power, and presence—and he lived up to every bit of it. Winning Rookie of the Year in 2001, the Fil-Tongan center would soon capture the league’s highest individual honor with an MVP season in 2003, where he also led the league in scoring and powered his team to a Philippine Cup title. Known for his brute strength, surprisingly nimble footwork, and relentless work ethic, Asi collected 4 Mythical First Team nods and 4 Second Team selections over a career that incredibly spanned two and a half decades. He also won 2 All-Star MVPs, made 3 All-Defensive Teams, and claimed back-to-back scoring titles in the early 2000s. But beyond the numbers, Taulava’s longevity is legendary—playing well into his 40s, adapting his game with time, and mentoring a generation of players. Few PBA careers burned as long, or left as strong an imprint, as The Rock.
