The 1997 PBA All-Star Game had the RSJ squad winning over the Veterans, 126 to 123. Sophomore guard Bal David was hailed as the All-Star MVP and the format was temporarily shelved after this season.
Now, it may not be the case in 1997, but judging from their season numbers, it's odd to see Cris Bolado, Bonel Balingit, Jason Webb, Elmer Lago, and Jojo Lim getting the mention. Maybe it's just me, but I always find it odd for all-stars to average fewer than five points per game.
Moreover, if you combine the points of these five, they would still fall short of the scoring average of Jun Limpot - who averaged 20.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 0.7 blocks in 55 games for the Realtors. The Real Deal is the only player in the Mythical Selection to never make the all-star that season. Freddie Abuda, another all-star snub, was that season's Defensive Player of the Year. And while yeah, Allan Caidic was saddled with injuries in 1997, he is still a noteworthy presence. Rodney Santos also missed out on the event for the RSJ and the same can be said for Shell's Victor Pablo (17.4ppg, 7.2rpg, and 2.6apg in 46 games).
