PBA ALL-STAR STATISTICAL STANDOUTS | 1993 EDITION

Updated: Mar 6, 2023

The Triggerman finally won an All-Star MVP award with the North All-Stars getting their revenge over the South All-Stars, 149 to 129. Allan Caidic got his only All-Star MVP during this edition when he scorched the hoop with 40 points.

Ramon Fernandez and Abet Guidaben finally got to be all-star teammates. Sure, the Maasin, Leyte native, and the man dubbed as The Pride of Camiguin played for the same team in the 1982 PBA All-Star Series but this is an unofficial exhibition match. Unfortunately, the other remaining pioneer, Robert Jaworski, could not play in the festivities - making the 1990 all-star the only time when three pioneers got to see action with Philip Cezar as the third guy.

Benjie Paras had contract issues with Shell that year as he wanted to transfer to Ginebra. In 29 games that season, The Tower of Power averaged 21.0ppg, 7.6rpg, 3.2apg, and 2.5bpg. Bong Alvarez is another name missing on the datasheet but this was also the year he was traded to the Sta. Lucia Realtors for Bong Hawkins. In 19 games, Mr. Excitement had 20.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. If the all-star had a Veterans versus RSJ format, then rookie Johnny Abarrientos should have made the list of all-star participants.
