I think it's time for Patrick Beverley to retire.
It's not that he can't play. It's not even that he threw the ball to the fans twice.
After playing nine seasons for the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Clippers, the Milwaukee Bucks is his fifth team in three seasons. I know he is just a part-time starter looking for a role with a champion team, but all this ring-chasing is frustrating him. Just imagine that he lucked out when he was traded to the Bucks when Philadelphia was reeling because of Joel Embiid's injury. Then come playoff time, Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo got injured, and the situation with Doc Rivers, his former coach, got worse.
The 35-year-old will start in the free-agency market next season, and I doubt the Bucks will keep him. Hell, if the Bucks want to keep Giannis, I bet Doc Rivers will also get fired, so who will back up then?
Pat Bev may be a vet-minimum player, but he's also a locker-room problem if you do not like his pit bull persona. He's going to be a problem if he joins a rebuilding squad and he might ruffle feathers if he's going to join a title-hunting team.
He's probably going to start the season suspended for at least games.
At worst, he probably forced the league to retire him, instead of going out on his terms. Maybe that's what Pat Bev wanted.
It's like, I am going out as a bad boy.
Because this is the only rational reason for him to do this.
