What's up!
This is my pole vault play-by-play.
I really wanted to learn how a typical pole vault telecast is so I am checking this out from beginning to end.
Of course, I also support EJ Obiena.
LET'S GO EJ!
5.50 METERS
EJ Obiena easily clears the height. Except for Latvia's Valters Kriess, all ten pole vaulters cleared the height on their first try. Sweden's Armand Duplantis passed on the chance to jump.
5.70 METERS
Norway's Sondre Guttormsen fails to clear the height for the first time in the Paris Games. Anyway, the Norwegian managed to clear the height after three tries. Meanwhile, Valters Kreiss became the finals' first casualty, with his last attempt not making the top as he crashed out of the mat and into the track.
5.80 METERS
I just realized how important the order of attempts is. There is no time to rest for Sondre Guttormsen after passing 5.70 meters. That said, he successfully passed 5.80 on his first attempt. Oleg Zernikel failed to clear in his first attempt.
When Eric Tipan usually "knocks it down," it's usually a good thing.
Not in pole vault though, as Bo Kanda Lita Baehre missed on his first attempt. So did Kurtis Marschall. Duplantis meanwhile, skipped the height.
EJ Obiena cleared the height but his midsection touched the bar to miss on his first attempt.
Zernikel also missed his second attempt. So did Lita Baehre and Vloon. Marschall and EJ skipped 5.80. The two Germans would follow suit in the turnaround. Vloon attempted 5.80 but his third attempt fell short. The Dutch pole vaulter is the second man out of the event.
5.85 METERS
Guttormsen missed on his first attempt and Sam Kendricks finally missed for his first time. Zernikel skipped his third 5.80 attempt to move to 5.85 to no avail. Fellow German Lita Baehre followed suit.
Duplantis finally went for an attempt and the final boss easily conquered the distance.
I like how Kendricks, Obiena, Emmanouil Karalis, and Duplantis are checking each other.
Anyway, back-to-back successes from Karalis, Marschall, and Ersu Sasma.
EJ Obiena? He successfully conquered the height as well.
Almost 160,000 people are watching on the One Sports, Smart Sports, and the Puso Pilipinas YouTube channel.
Anyway, Guttormsen and Kendricks elected to skip their remaining 5.85 attempts but Huang Bokai wanted to conquer the height. He couldn't, so the Chinese pole vaulter was the fifth pole vaulter out of the event.
5.90 METERS
Guttormsen missed on his first attempt, and now he's on the brink. Meanwhile, Kendricks ran like hell after successfully clearing the mark. Duplantis skipped 5.90 and Karalis continues his hot streak.
Marschall missed the mark and Sasma finally missed his first attempt in Paris.
Meanwhile, Guttormsen, Marschall, and Sasma have skipped their remaining attempts.

Guttormsen missed his final attempt and he's out. Meanwhile, Kendricks got his and he was ecstatic.
Duplantis just finished his attempt with relative ease and he's the last pole vaulter to have a perfect record with what happened to Karalis in the following attempt.
Meanwhile, Sam Kendricks just kissed his wife and I feel he's crazy chatting with Duplantis.
Yeah.
Marschall missed his second attempt and is on the brink of elimination.
So did Sasma.
EJ Obiena also missed on his attempt.
Kurtis Marschall is out of contention following his second missed attempt. Sasma also leaves the event after his third failed attempt.
EJ missed his second attempt.
He needs to make his third attempt.
LET'S GO EJ OBIENA!!!
Unfortunately, EJ missed his third attempt.
EJ finished fourth.

6.00 METERS
Sam Kendricks starts with a miss.
I am in a somber mood right now.
Meanwhile, Armand Duplantis could have aimed for 6.20 with that jump.
Karalis on the other hand, just fouled his attempt.
Kendricks also messed up his second attempt. He is above Karalis in the rankings because he has three attempts in the 6.00 meters.
Karalis then fails his attempt but jumps for joy after because he just won a bronze medal.
So it's the GOAT versus the bloodied Kendricks.
Kendricks missed the attempt... and Armand Duplantis just won the gold medal.
BREAKING THE RECORD
But wait... THERE'S MORE!
With all the pressure lifted, Duplantis is now out to take down Brazil's Thiago Braz's Olympic record that was set in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
When he attempted 6.10, he breezed on it.
However, Duplantis struggled in his first two attempts in 6.25.
At that point, frustration sets in.
And then, Duplantis nails it.
Not only is he a two-time gold medalist, he is also the Olympic record holder.
It's already 4:30 am and while this is my bedtime, I also need to wake up early for work.
Why are they playing ABBA's Dancing Queen in the middle of a men's pole vault celebration?
