I was watching the Carlo Paalam fight on my TV and I was mad.
THE DUDE GOT ROBBBBBBEEEEEDDDDD!
And then I hear Sev Sarmenta screaming his lungs out in my laptop in the other room.
CARLOS YULO HAS DONE THE UNTHINKABLE!!!
The 2020 win of Hidilyn Diaz opened a floodgate of gold aspiration. No longer are we just looking for participation trophies. If it's not a medal, then it's a moment.
The Joanie Delgaco come from behind near-victory in rowing is a moment.
Carlos Yulo made sure of a podium finish, and he is on another level.
In the floor exercise event, three of the eight participants were not part of the all-around gymnastics event.
If you click the link, you'll also get why I am happy about Yulo's chances in the vault event.
GYMNAST | DIFF | EXEC | SCORE |
CARLOS YULO | PHILIPPINES | 6.600 | 8.400 | 15.000 |
ARTEM DOLGOPYAT | ISRAEL | 6.400 | 8.566 | 14.966 |
JAKE JARMAN | GREAT BRITAIN | 6.600 | 8.333 | 14.933 |
ILLIA KOVTUN | UKRAINE | 6.200 | 8.333 | 14.533 |
MILAD KARIMI | KAZAKHSTAN | 6.300 | 8.200 | 14.500 |
LUKE WHITEHOUSE | GREAT BRITAIN | 6.300 | 8.166 | 14.466 |
RAYDERLEY ZAPATA | SPAIN | 6.200 | 8.233 | 14.333 |
ZHANG BOHENG | CHINA | 6.100 | 8.133 | 13.933 |
The thing about the floor exercise is that you come in with a plan, you let the judges know about it, and you bet on yourself that you can follow through with what you wager.
You can do three flips before falling?
Then, here are the points of every routine that you'll pull.
So there.
This is why Carlos Yulo has a 6.6 while Zhang Boheng has a 6.1.
Also, the execution part starts at ten, and then it slowly decreases for every infraction.
That's the scoring system of gymnastics for you.
In the all-around event, Yulo had a good showing at the horizontal bar but only got a 13.600 because he only had a 5.400 difficulty. Zhang meanwhile, had a 14.633 because he posted a higher degree of difficulty.
There are some facets that he is good at, and when he's good at it, there is a chance of a podium finish.
It's nice to listen to Lupang Hinirang in these types of situations. Not only is Yulo the second gold medalist in the country's 100-year Olympic history, but he is also the first Filipino ever to win the top prize. Again, Hidilyn opened a portal of hope for Filipino athletes and there might be a chance that Yulo can be the country's first two-time gold winner.
And while yeah, we can consider Jake Jarman's bronze win in the same event as an even better thing for Filipinos, I really hope Yulo can defeat his buddy in the vault event.
Allegedly, Jarman wants to compete for the Philippines in 2028, but until then, there is only one Filipino representative in Paris. And while there is a chance for Jarman to switch allegiances, he has been a hit with the British fans. I guess the only thing working against Jarman is that Great Britain has a stacked roster of gymnasts. In the all-around event, Joe Fraser was the other British guy with Jarman. In the floor exercise, Jarman also competed with compatriot Luke Whitehouse. Max Whitlock will compete for Great Britain in the pommel horse, and Harry Hepworth will participate in the steel rings and compete against Jarman and Yulo in the vault event.
Because of the shitty crap Carlo Paalam suffered, we have Nesthy Petecio, EJ Obiena, the golfers and the weightlifters...
AIRA VILLEGAS JUST SECURED A PODIUM FINISH!!!!
and of course, the other Carlos Yulo event will have to do everything to possibly give the Philippines, it's best finish in the Olympics.
