Just sharing this blog.
This is the first blog I made for NBA Philippines. I made this article on April 6, 2012, and I wanted this to serve as my intro to the NBA Philippines fanbase.
I would then grow a bunch of followers and an insane amount of haters.
Anyway…
Check out the article. I was insanely narcissistic back then and I had a finishing catchphrase as well as a dot-org website.
Hahahahaha!
Welcome to the first Sydrified blog of yours truly. Expect 600 or more words where I ramble on the various NBA happenings. I will probably talk about vintage NBA stuff and the league’s fantasy world. I’ll also do individual rankings in an effort for you to adore me.
I am an armchair jock and regardless of how poor some NBA players play, I would probably fare worse. I started playing pickup basketball at age 30 to shed at least 20 pounds on my 220-pound body. My fiancé thinks my stomach is adorable but I don’t want to look like a dirty old man at the time of my wedding.
I won’t trash an NBA player even if I really, really hate them. I have too much respect for players equipped with insane athletic ability and extraordinary court sense.
I will however rant like hell if they act like little toddlers.
I am looking at you, Lebron James, and... Dwight Howard.
My first NBA recollection was when Quinito Henson was intro-ing the NBA games on GMA. I think I was five years old then. Airing every Saturday afternoon, I got the chance to see Larry Bird trash Magic Johnson and vice versa in the biggest stage of all. At a young age, I get to know guys I considered as stars like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Terry Porter, Buck Williams, John Stockton, and Karl Malone because their team’s games were heavily featured on their broadcasts.
My all-time favorite team is the Boston Celtics. I love history so I pride myself on the Celtics’ rich winning tradition. I switched allegiances though in the ’90s during Michael Jordan’s double three-peat. Let’s face it – Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen are freakin’ awesome and that red jersey with black fonts is one of the most noticeable colors during that era (the Alaska team of the ’90s donned the same colors). I switched back to Boston when I thought there’s a conspiracy involving the old Boston crew after the deaths of the legendary Red Auerbach and Dennis Johnson. Johnson’s teammates during his time were Boston’s current GM Danny Ainge, then-Minnesota GM Kevin McHale, and Indiana GM Larry Bird. Kevin Garnett became a Celtic for an array of role players and while the trade involving the then injury-free Jermaine O’Neal bombed, they still got Ray Allen from Seattle which was the first team Dennis Johnson played.
With these tools, they managed to turn the Celtics from cellar-dwellers to titleholders in a span of a season.
Yes… my head is a paradise for conspiracy.
The best NBA era for me is the 90’s. I am a fan of Jordan, Scottie Pippen, most of the Dream Teams from 1992 to 2000, and Dennis Rodman. Rodman cares less about scoring and but you can’t argue that Rodman is the epitome of hustle and muscle. Aside from the Celtics and the Bulls, some of the teams I loved to root were the Chris Webber-led Sacramento Kings, the Shaquille O’Neal/Anfernee Hardaway duo in Orlando, the Jordan-led Washington Wizards, Kevin Garnett’s Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Stockton-to-Malone Utah Jazz core.
It helped that I was a massive NBA cards collector growing up.
My biggest regret was collecting a lot of Jerry Stackhouse rookie cards.
I wonder how much they are now.
I could say more but I’ll probably stop now. Rest assured that I will research whatever topics I need to dish out.
I’m ready to answer whatever’s on your mind so be on the lookout for new material every Tuesday.
