I rarely talk about pets.
For starters, I hate fur.
With that said, here’s a first.
This is GM Michikot. She is my red, metallic dog. He is a 2022 MG ZS Alpha AT (or as my cousin would put it, the 2022 version of the Mazda CX5). I named her GM because when I told my cousin about my plan, he kept on babbling about the MG being GM. Also, I am a former NBA fantasy basketball champion... and hopefully, this can help with my monthly funds (at least for a month). Also, I got Michikot from a Kiko Machine song. Apart from Val Sotto, that is the song I love the most.
I had her after months of deliberation and so far, we have a love-hate relationship. She has a sunroof, she has a heater, she has an insane set of speakers, and I know very little about just in case disaster strikes.
Oh yeah, the most important thing about her is that she has a parking sensor and rearview camera because I am terrified of parking.
And this is where the love-hate relationship starts. I never thought that owning a car means having a very expensive dog with very expensive needs. You have to feed her for at least a week because she gets insane. She is delicate as hell especially since I don’t want to bump into anything. I also need to learn how to get comfortable as a driver.
For four decades, I have learned to go from Point A to Point B by riding the passenger seat and now I have to check on her every time I hear an alarm. Normally, I couldn’t care less if a dog soils in front of my dad’s car but now, I hate the birds of Quezon City as much as the birds of Pasig City. Bird poop, in any place they were “registered”, is still poop. I am one of those guys who now wakes up every Saturday making coffee and then letting it be for about an hour because I have a microfiber cloth in one hand and a hose in another. My rearview mirror has a rosary draped on it with a coffee latte scent diffuser alongside it.
I also have Katinko just in case my head hurts because of the sun... or if I get sleepy.
I will also have my plate number next week and this is good since I just gave my red, metallic dog an RFID sticker after our first driving test in Batangas. In some ways, that trip is also the reason why I made this blog. I am shy when it comes to owning things and maybe in 2023, I need to start rebuilding my confidence.
Sports cards have gone down at the moment but hopefully, Ja Morant and Zion Williamson will do enough to warrant a Hall of Fame career. I might need help selling my Funko pops but of all my collectibles, they might be the easiest to give up.
I bought my red, metallic dog to make life easier for me. It was a decision I made on my own and in some ways, it’s a decision I should have made when I was still in my early thirties. I have been working from home since the start of the pandemic and honestly, I just want to feel like a true, blue car owner before my life returns to normal. With that said, I can finally go to any place I want. Now I can go from QC to Pasig without the fear of walking an endless plight before a taxi or a tricycle shows up.
Yes, at the moment, I still need to get over my fear of parking but I guess practice makes perfect.
And last thing, apart from the expensive taxi fares, the reason that pushed me to get a car is a funny story. Three weeks before I bought GM, I was about to go to Pasig when I thought it would be a good idea to take my Dad’s Ford Everest to Luzon Avenue since it would be easier to go to C-5 using that route. I was driving carefully up until I hit a tricycle. Since I was afraid to park and since I was in shock, I asked the people there to help me. They were hospitable but then they said a bunch of words that terrified me.
“Wala namang mangyayari sayo dito.”
When you say “nothing wrong will ever happen to you” to a person, which means there is a tendency for something that could happen to you. So I asked the person the quickest way to solve the predicament and after five minutes and two thousand pesos, I raced out of the area with a slight gash on the driver’s side.
And what was I thinking?
“My first areglo.”
“Now I can buy my car.”
That was when I saw the holiday deal of MG.
Get Sydrified.
