Ish Smith is bar none, the best definition of an NBA mercenary. He is the only player in NBA history to see action for 13 teams in 13 seasons.
Now, people will laugh at how Ish Smith was tossed around from team to team. However, a typical journeyman would have never lasted that long. Ish Smith is also an undrafted guard. And you think about it, Smith got paid during his late 20s and early 30s. I can enumerate a lot of high picks who never had the career he had. Jonny Flynn is one. Dajuan Wagner is another.
Basketball is a big man's sport and having the undrafted handicap makes his 13 seasons insanely amazing.
If I see an all-star guard injured and then I see Ish Smith lurking around in that player's bench, most likely, Ish is going to take his place. In my decade-long fantasy basketball experience, it's hard to doubt an Ish Smith explosion if he is given the opportunity to shine.
So with this in mind, I list down all of his stops since entering the league in 2010. Now I can't say that the 2022-23 NBA season is going to be his last but with that said, he's already 34 years old as of this writing.
You can't fault teams if they want to look for a veteran glue guy off the bench though.
