Emo Jimmy had a game plan.
I doubt if he thought of this though.
Jimmy "Buckets" Butler, the unofficial son of Michael Jordan, if you are going to believe in a bunch of "reliable" sources, had this thing of making the NBA Media Day a spectacle. On this day, we see the superstars, as well as the rookies, pose for photographs wearing their uniforms. This shoot is important because it would update their images. This is especially important for rookies and transferees, as well as the development of a player's hair and body.
Take Chris "Birdman" Anderson for instance. During his playing career in the NBA, he started tattoo-less and retired with a whole bunch of them. James Harden started his career clean-shaven, sans his iconic beard.
Just imagine if he is taking a free throw in 2024 and the image at the lower left of your screen is his 2009 version.
Now, Jimmy Butler took things to a whole new level because every season, he paraded with a new hairstyle for the sake of trolling the people. In some ways, the photo editors must have hated him because they needed to photoshop his face to his in-game version hairstyle, which could either be a different angle from his face or might not be as unkempt as his Media Day version.
Regardless, Butler's hairstyle has been a spectacle for media people and fans alike. Shaquille O'Neal went as Emo Jimmy during Inside the NBA's Halloween episode.
But then, Butler shocked everyone when he appeared in the Fall Out Boy music video.
And I guess the conversation goes a little bit something like this?
BUTLER: So what do you want from me?
FALL OUT BOY: Yes.
BUTLER: Yes? Do you have a concept in mind?
Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz stare at the ceiling and simultaneously look at Butler with fire in their eyes.
FALL OUT BOY: Violet... shiny... cowboy wear.
Jimmy Butler thinks for a minute.
BUTLER: Say no more.
I guess it's something like that, but I guess with more smoke in the room.
Anyway, here's the music video.
