Jerry West is now in hoop heaven.
While most of the fans know him as the guy NBA patterned their logo, I remember him as the offensive powerhouse who shared the ball with Elgin Baylor, Gail Goodrich, and Wilt Chamberlain during the '60s and the early '70s.
Zeke from Cabin Creek finished his career with 27.0ppg, 5.8rpg, and 6.7apg. While most players of his era are heavily affected by stat discrepancies, as well as lack of individual awards, Mr. Clutch is a one-time champion, one-time Finals MVP, one-time scoring champion, 12-time All-NBA Teamer, and 14-time All-Star. And while yeah, he's only a one-time champion, but his Lakers had finals appearances against Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics.
As an executive, he was instrumental in bringing Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant to the Los Angeles Lakers. He won a total of eight championships as an executive for the Lakers, as well as a couple for the Golden State Warriors. He is a two-time Executive of the Year winner, for the Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies. Upon his death, West was part of the Los Angeles Clippers front office.
He is one of the 75 Greatest Players of the league.
Rest in Power, Jerry West.
