FUNKO | SHAWN KEMP

Updated: Aug 16, 2021

I am a Chicago Bulls fan during the Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen era.

With that said, I pity a lot of their contemporaries. I hate the fact that guys like Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin, Reggie Miller, Tim Hardaway, and Mark Price failed to win NBA titles during their time.

However, one player that I was really rooting for during his heyday is Shawn Kemp. With his thunderous dunks and unbelievable intensity, this high schooler-turned-pro baller could have had a better career with the Seattle Supersonics.

Seattle had this awesome Starting 5 comprised of Gary Payton and Hersey Hawkins at the guard positions, Kemp and Detlef Schrempf in the forward spots, and Sam Perkins starring at the center position. Kemp and Payton were as awesome as most Mutt and Jeff combos during that era.

Their combo reminded me of the time when Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury formed their own brand of awesomeness.

I can’t believe how Seattle messed with Kemp and gave Jim McIlvaine that amount of money!

Like most of his contemporaries, Kemp had an awful end to his career with injuries and issues getting in the way.

Nonetheless, forgetting the Reign Man’s achievements is just insane.
