I don't hate Yoo Seon Ho, unlike most 1N2D fans.
I just find him cringy.
Seon Ho reminds me a lot of Joo Won. I think in terms of being the maknae of the group, Lee Seung Gi, Ravi, and Jung Joon Young (before he messed up Season 3) are top tier. Seung Gi and Yoo Seon Ho are kinda the same but he doesn't have the likeability factor. I saw X-Man and most of the members in the 1N2D incarnation were part of that program. Basically, Seung Gi's entry as well as MC Mong's made Season 1 insanely better.
When the young guy comes in and tells everyone that he's enthusiastically better than everyone, then I guess that's okay... unless there's a huge age difference involved. When you divide the ages of Youn Jung Hoon and Kim Jong Min, you get Seon Ho's age and... I don't really like The Return of Superman that much AND IT FEELS LIKE the age discrepancy is going to be a problem in the future.
Korean culture is one of the reasons why most Korean Variety shows are culture-centric. Young people have to respect their elders and most shows are male-centric as well. Kang Ho Dong, his 2022 version, is probably going to let K-pop kids mess with him but if this is Season 1, I bet he is not going to see any of it. I remember in the first season of The Great Escape and Ho Dong scolded Jong Min because he was too playful. The difference between TGE and 1N2D is the hierarchy. In this current season, even if Kim Seon Ho and Ravi are chummy with Jung Hoon, I can't see any of them messing with him. It's even more visible when Na In Woo came into the fold - but the guy is fortunately positioned as innocent and childlike.
I don't think Seon Ho can be disrespectful to Jung Hoon and this is the problem. Even Jung Joon Young never went overboard with Kim Joo Hyuk. I have seen Seon Ho in Handsome Tigers. Yes, Seon Ho might be athletic but he also might see little to no airtime with his current setup. If he's a know-it-all, he's probably going to clash characters with Dindin. And Dindin at the moment has toned down on his approach as he is more in the realm of a sophisticated version of Eun Ji Won.
And my final qualm is that the dynamic was too positive. I know it's unfortunate for Seon Ho to debut when Dindin isn't around but they need to have some sort of intense winter training to make the viewers pull for the new cast member.
More than the name, I feel like Seon Ho is too young for 1N2D. All eyes will be on him in a couple of weeks if he's a good fit with the cast members. Hopefully, he is. Or if he isn't, maybe his stay can be brief like how Yoo Su Bin was in Master in the House... or even Song Joong Ki was in Running Man.
I have nothing against Flower boys but I just want them to be effective in Korean Variety.
